What is an Arm Lift
Phoenix and Scottsdale men and women can get tight, toned arms even if exercising and weightlifting haven’t helped. An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, is a cosmetic procedure aimed at getting rid of excess fatty deposits as well as skin on the arms. Sometimes, an arm lift is performed along with another procedure called liposuction in order to remove fatty deposits in the upper arms.
Often, people who have lost a good deal of weight will choose to get an arm lift. But thin people who have saggy skin (ptosis) on this area of the body also opt for the procedure too. As long as you are healthy and have maintained your current weight for a year, you’re a terrific candidate.
How Is An Arm Lift Procedure Performed?
If you’ve started thinking about getting an arm lift, Phoenix and Scottsdale patients are often curious about how Dr. Meger performs them. For most patients, the procedure is performed in an outpatient surgery center.
Dr. Meger then makes an incision between the underarm and elbow. If there is an excessive amount of skin to remove then the incision can extend to and include a portion of the chest as well. Once the incision is made, the excess fat and skin is removed and the remaining skin is gathered together for suturing.
Recovery Process for an Arm Lift
Phoenix and Scottsdale patients actually recover somewhat quickly from arm lift surgery. There will be some bruising and swelling for the first few days that can be managed with pain medications and some patients take off work for these first initial days of healing.
From there, most patients can go back to a desk job in three to five days and return to their usual routine in a few weeks. However, exercise and other strenuous activity should be delayed for longer.
One major concern for arm lift patients is the scar. There are a couple options as far as where the scar will be and Dr. Meger spends a lot of time talking with patients about this. Patients will work with Dr. Meger to determine which scar location is best for them. However, there are some effective scar management techniques such as massage and ointments that can reduce the scarring from an arm lift.
Phoenix and Scottsdale Patients: Call Dr. Meger Today
During your consultation, the doctor will supply you with preoperative instructions in preparation for your procedure. Patients are directed to stay away from certain medications, such as aspirin or NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), to lessen the risk of swelling, bleeding, and infection. Phoenix and Scottsdale patients who smoke or drink are advised to quit before the procedure as well. Following a diet comprised mainly of protein can assist in recovery.
