Neck Lift Phoenix and Scottsdale

What is a Neck Lift?

Neck Lift Phoenix AZ Dr. MegerA neck lift procedure is performed with the goal of removing any excess fat or even sagging skin on the cervical area that usually develops with age. Surgery can take the form of liposuction, cervicoplasty, or platysmaplasty.

Usually, liposuction is performed to eliminate excess fat from the neck while cervicoplasty is done if any sagging skin needs to be removed. Platysmaplasty is performed when the muscles in the neck need to be tightened and toned, and the band lines need to be removed. Dr. Meger may combine this procedure with another treatment option, such as a facelift, blepharoplasty, or a forehead lift. Phoenix and Scottsdale patients may also undergo a less invasive procedure known as a micro procedure.

Who is the Best Candidate?

Phoenix and Scottsdale patients who undergo neck lifts can range in age from 18 to 90. If you’re healthy and exhibit sagging skin or lines around the neck, then you’re a good candidate.

What is Involved?

Typically, this procedure is performed under a local or general anesthesia, depending on the individual case. In some instances, the doctor uses an endoscope as a visual guide and aid. By using a small camera and monitor display, the doctor is able to make smaller incisions, all which results in less bruising and enables the patient to heal at a faster rate. The procedure is typically done on an outpatient basis, with the patient returning home the same day.

What Happens when Liposuction is Performed?

If liposuction is used to remove fat from the neck, then the doctor will place an incision beneath the chin to remove the deposits of fat. A small hollow tube, called a cannula, is used to break up the deposits and remove the excess fat.

What is Involved in Liposuction Recovery?

After the procedure, the patient will experience some bruising and swelling around the jaw, ears, and neck. A bandage is placed around the neck to ease any related discomfort. During the recovery process, the patient is also advised to keep her head and neck elevated for a period of 10 days. An antibiotic and pain medication will be prescribed to lessen the risk of infection and treat the bruising and swelling.

What Does Cervicoplasty Entail?

Cervicoplasty, designed to get rid of sagging skin from the neck, is performed by first placing an incision beneath the chin and/or behind each ear. The surgeon, in turn, lifts the remaining skin after the excess skin is removed. Incisions are sutured, and the incision sites are bandaged and taped to reduce any swelling or discomfort.

What’s Involved in the Recovery Process for a Cervicoplasty Procedure?

The neck, ears, and jaws will usually be bruised or swollen for a 10-day period. An antibiotic and pain medicine will both be prescribed to reduce the chance for infection and treat any discomfort. A bandage and tape are worn during the healing process.

How is a Platysmaplasty Performed?

Designed to reduce the band lines around the neck, platysmaplasty requires that an incision be placed beneath the chin and/or behind each ear. A small instrument is inserted at each incision site to realign or remove specific muscles in the neck. Sutures are then applied as well as a bandage and tape.

What’s Involved in the Recovery Process for Platysmaplasty?

Similar to cervicoplasty, recovery will usually take about 10 days. Oral pain relievers and an antibiotic will be prescribed to lessen any discomfort or reduce the chance for infection.

What Is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, or a nose job, is a surgery designed to reshape or enhance the appearance of the nose. The surgery is also indicated sometimes to correct the nose’s structure to improve breathing. Click here to view before and after pictures for the Phoenix and Scottsdale area.

How Can It Be Used to Change a Nose’s Appearance?

This procedure can be used to do the following:

  • Alter the size of the nose
  • Improve the profile or remove obvious depressions or humps appearing on the bridge
  • Improve the look of the tip of a nose that is too upturned or bulbous
  • Modify the size of wide or large nostrils
  • Eliminate any problems with deviation or asymmetry
Rhinoplasty Phoenix AZ Dr. Meger

Am I a Good Candidate for Nose Surgery?

Nose surgery is a highly personalized choice. Therefore, you are a good candidate if you are a healthy individual who has realistic expectations about the procedure and the outcome.

What Is Involved in the Procedure?

To minimize any discomfort, a general anesthetic and intravenous sedation are typically first administered. An incision is made, either within the nose or on the outside, across the strip that is located between the nostrils. Once the incision is made, the tissues covering the nose are lifted, permitting the doctor to reshape certain structural components.

In reshaping the nose, pieces of cartilage are normally grafted, either from the nose’s septum or, in some instances, from the ear. If the patient’s septum is deviated, the partition is straightened, and any projections within the nose are resized so breathing can be enhanced. Splints or tubes are usually placed to support the healing process.

What Happens After the Procedure?

Splints or tubes that are placed in the nose will be removed after about a week. The initial swelling after surgery should subside after about three weeks.

Lip Augmentation Phoenix and Scottsdale

What Is Lip Augmentation?

Lip augmentation or lip enhancement is a procedure designed to increase lip size with lip injections or lip implants. The lips can be treated either at the same time or individually. Depending on the method used, the results may be temporary or permanent. Click here to view before and after pictures for the Phoenix and Scottsdale area.

What Are the Methods Used?

Non-Invasive Methods: Lip Injections

Lip Augmentation Phoenix AZ Dr. MegerCollagen Injections

Lip injections containing collagen are often used to increase the size of the lips. The substance, which is derived from the skin of cows, is injected with a very fine needle. The results, which are temporary, last about two to three months. Some people are not good candidates for the procedure because they are allergic to the substance.

Fat Injections

Fat is also used to increase lip size and is taken from such areas as the thighs or hips. The results of this kind of treatment usually last about four or five months.

Popular Injectables

Popular injectable substances include Restylane® (made with hyaluronic acid), Radiance® (which contains a synthetic substance contained in a gel), and Juvederm® (another hyaluronic acid filler). Injections of Radiance can last quite a while, from three to five years. Restylane® and Juvederm® fillers last about a year.

Surgical Enhancements

These procedures used to increase lip size include the use of AlloDerm® (a collagen derived from cadavers) and lip implants.

In the case of AlloDerm® augmentation, an incision is placed inside each corner of the mouth before the collagen is inserted. The incisions, following the procedure, are then sutured shut. AlloDerm® treatments last up to a year and carry a very low risk of infection.

Lip Implants

In the case of lip implants, a small incision is placed on the inside of the lip before the implant is inserted with a needle. Because implants are synthetic, there’s a greater chance for infection.

What Is Involved in the After-Care?

To promote healing, Phoenix and Scottsdale patients should apply ice to the treatment site for at least 48 hours. In addition, they should refrain from talking or chewing during the same amount of time. Smiling is discouraged for about a week following the therapy.

The doctor will also advise Phoenix and Scottsdale patients to avoid any strenuous activity for about three days. Antibiotics are typically prescribed to reduce infection risk.

Facelift Phoenix AZ Dr. Meger

What Happens During a Facelift?

  • Phoenix and Scottsdale patients will undergo their procedure in an outpatient surgery center.
  • From there, depending on the type of facelift you and Dr. Meger have discussed, he will make an incision near the temple and continue it around the ear and stop at the lower scalp.
  • Once the incision is made, the facial muscles are lifted and the tissue beneath the skin is repositioned. Any excess skin is removed as well.
  • Incisions are closed with sutures or a skin adhesive or tape. The resulting scar lines are hidden from view in the hair or in the contours of the face.
  • Other procedures, such as laser resurfacing, fat transfer to the face, microdermabrasion, and dermal fillers can enhance the results of the treatment.

What is the Recovery Process for a Facelift?

Phoenix and Scottsdale patients should expect their facelift results to appear over time as they heal and recover from the procedure. There will be some initial bruising and swelling that will usually go away within a couple weeks–sometimes longer. But generally, the swelling dissipates after about four months and the incision lines mature after six months.

Immediately after the procedure, a bandage will be applied to minimize any bruising or swelling and a drain may be used to safely collect any excess fluid or blood that accumulates beneath the skin. Most patients stay one night at the recovery center and the doctor will discharge you the following morning. He will also provide instructions for home care and prescribe the appropriate medications.

How to Maintain Your Facelift Results

After you’ve had your facelift and are enjoying looking like your younger self, there are some strategies that we discuss with patients in detail on how to maintain their results.

  • Follow your postoperative instructions – Be sure to follow Dr. Meger’s recovery instructions to the letter.
  • Avoid Direct Sunlight – The sun can absolutely ravage your skin so we always recommend staying out of direct sunlight and use sun block. This includes tanning beds!
  • You are what you eat – Make sure that you eat a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables.
  • Stay hydrated – Most people don’t drink enough water and staying hydrated can have a huge impact on your skin.
  • Quit smoking – Patients must discontinue all nicotine use 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks after a facelift.

If you’re ready to erase the wrinkles on your face and look years younger, call Dr. Meger today at (602) 957-6000 to learn more about a facelift.

Eyelid Surgery Phoenix and Scottsdale

What Is an Eyelid Lift?

An eyelid lift procedure, also referred to as eyelid surgery or sometimes, blepharoplasty, is performed to offset the appearance of fine lines, eye bags, as well as wrinkles. This can also be performed in order to get rid of drooping lids. This procedure also works in correcting imperfections for both the upper as well as lower eyelids.

Puffiness and folds, which can cause visual difficulties, can be eliminated by this surgery while droopiness can be removed when the lower eyelids are corrected. Click here to review before and after pictures.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Phoenix and Scottsdale patients in excellent health and who want to improve the appearance of sagging skin around their eyes, are a good candidate for eyelid surgery. Surgery is not recommended for individuals who have dry eye or glaucoma or are suffering from heart disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes.

Eyelid Surgery Phoenix AZ Dr. Meger

What Does the Procedure Involve?

Phoenix and Scottsdale patients who undergo blepharoplasty are given a general anesthetic before the procedure begins. The surgeon then makes some incisions. For upper eyelid, he makes incisions in the creases of the upper eyelid. The sagging skin is then excised, and the tissue tightened. During lower eyelid, the doctor makes an incision beneath the lower lash line before removing the excess skin. The incisions are closed with either absorbable or removal sutures, surgical tape, or a skin adhesive. If removable sutures are used, they are generally taken out after about five days.

What Is Involved in After-treatment Care?

After the procedure, patients normally use a cold compress to alleviate bruising and swelling and are advised to keep their head elevated when they’re relaxing. Prescription pain relievers alleviate any discomfort. Eyes may feel a bit sticky or scratchy; therefore, eye drops may also be recommended in post-treatment care.

How Long Do the Results Last?

The results from blepharoplasty can last as long as ten years.

Brow Lift in Phoenix and Scottsdale

What Is a Brow Lift?

This procedure is also referred to as browplasty, or forehead lift. This facial procedure is a form of surgery with the goal of elevating a sagging brow, which in turn, can cause some vision problems. This procedure may also be performed in order to get rid of deep forehead lines along with the vertical lines that you normally find between the eyes. Click here to review before and after pictures.

What Is Involved in the Brow Lift Procedure?

Before the Brow Lift surgery, a general anesthetic is usually administered. The procedure is performed with an endoscope or a video device that helps the doctor make small incisions along the hairline. By using this approach, muscles and tissues can be more easily manipulated to elevate the brow or smooth the forehead. When the correction has been made by the surgeon, he will use either a skin adhesive, sutures that are removable or absorbable, clips or surgical tape.

What Happens After the Surgery?

After the procedure, tape or a dressing will be applied to reduce both swelling and bruising. A drain is used to collect any excess fluid or blood that may accumulate beneath the skin. The doctor will give you specific instructions on how to care for the site and what medicines to take.

How Long Does the Recovery Process Take?

The initial recovery takes about ten days, after which time the sutures, if they are removable, will be taken out. You can resume your normal routine at this time. Healing will take several weeks and the swelling will dissipate. Overall, the healing process takes about 5-6 months.

How Soon Can I See Results?

Phoenix and Scottsdale patients will gradually see results. After the bruising or swelling subsides, the forehead will look smoother, and the face will convey a more youthful appearance. Using sun protection is recommended to maintain the look.
