5 Breast Implant Myths Debunked

Breast Implants ScottsdaleMyths about breast augmentation and breast implants have been around for a long time. Now, more than ever, it seems as though these myths are more common and even more outrageous than before. We encourage our patients to do their own research and to wait to make any decisions until they’ve actually met with Dr. Meger. We wanted to do our part in putting some of these fables to rest with a few facts in this blog post.

As you start to think about your breast augmentation and breast implants, Scottsdale women have a lot of factors to consider. Fortunately, you won’t have to figure this all out by yourself. When you work with Dr. Meger, you’ll get all of the information you need to make an informed decision. Dr. Meger has built his practice on the idea that the doctor and patient should work together with total honesty and transparency. Myth #1 Every 10 Years You Have to Replace Breast Implants

Scottsdale women are often able to keep their breast implants for longer than 10 years–if they’re placed by a skilled surgeon. The 10-year myth came about because that is the warranty length that some manufacturers put on their breast implants. But if your implant hasn’t ruptured, leaked, or dropped substantially, and if there isn’t capsular contracture then you can most likely continue to enjoy your implants.

Myth #2 Breastfeeding is Impossible with Breast Implants

This is absolutely not true. Depending on the type of incision you get and the implant placement, your ability to breast feed is not changed by breast implant surgery.

Myth #3 Significantly Sagging Breasts Can Be Fixed with Breast Implants

Scottsdale women whose breasts have started to sag often ask us if they can just get a breast augmentation to fix them.  If there is a slight amount of sag in some cases filling the skin envelope with enough implant will result in an acceptable amount of lift.  If there is considerable sagginess however, breast implants alone are not feasible. A breast lift or mastopexy can be performed with the augmentation to fix sagging breasts. But performing a breast augmentation during a breast lift is fairly common.

Myth #4 Saline Implants Are Safer

While saline implants definitely have their advantages, they are not necessarily safer than silicone. However, one of the advantages is that if they do leak or rupture, you’ll be able to know almost immediately because the saline implants will deflate.  Your body absorbs the saline harmlessly and we replace the implant.  In the event of a silicone rupture, the silicone molecules bind to one another so the ruptured implant functions sort of like a run flat tire and the bulk of the silicone remains inside the implant.  Multiple studies have shown this silicone will not cause disease.

Myth #5 Breast Implants Always Look Fake

Scottsdale women get breast augmentation more than any other cosmetic procedure. If all breast implants looked fake, you think you’d start to notice. But Dr. Meger always does his best to deliver the results that his patients want. Most women want natural-looking breasts which is why you probably don’t notice when women have implants.

Scottsdale patients considering getting a breast augmentation or breast implants, should call Dr. Meger today at (602) 957-6000. While the internet has a lot of really valuable and reliable information, there’s also a lot of mistaken and downright dishonest content out there. We would love to talk to you about your questions and concerns, so make sure you call us today.

How Do I Know If My Breast Augmentation Is Dropping Normally?

Breast Augmentation PhoenixOne of the things that Dr. Meger is so good at is helping patients understand the healing process after their breast augmentation. Phoenix patients often want to see the final results of their procedure immediately after they go home from the operation. However, it takes some time for your body to heal, recover, and for your new implants to “drop” into place.

In this blog post, we want to talk about what you can expect to happen after your breast augmentation and how you can tell if your implants are dropping into place. We’ll also talk about some of the factors that go into determining how long it takes for that to happen.

If you’re unhappy with how your breasts look and want to experience an incredible boost in confidence, then call Dr. Meger today at (602) 957-6000. We are incredibly proud of the life-changing and natural-looking results that our patients get from working with Dr. Meger. In fact, you can take a look at some of our actual patients’ results in our gallery of Before-an-After pictures.

What Is “Dropping” for Breast Augmentation

Phoenix women who get breast augmentation will have to wait 4 to 6 weeks (sometimes up to 6 months) for their new implants to settle and “drop” into place. So what does that mean?

New breast implants typically are very hard, feel “tight,” and sit high on the chest. This is because the muscles and skin on your chest aren’t used to the implants. But over time, as the tissues expand, the implant will drop into place and soften. This is sometimes referred to as “drop and fluff.”

How Fast Will My Implants Drop?

After the breast augmentation, Phoenix patients often ask us how long it will take the implants to drop. This is another one of those questions that is very difficult for us to answer because so many different factors are unique to you. Here are some of the things that can impact how quickly your breast implants drop into place.

  •    Implant placement – If your implants are under the chest muscles (submuscular), it will take longer to settle because the muscles need time to relax.
  •    Implant size – If you had small breasts before your procedure and got moderately larger implants, it could take longer for your implants to drop because your skin and muscles may be pulled tight.

Speed Up Implant Dropping After Breast Augmentation

Phoenix patients with new breast implants are generally excited to them to “drop” and settle in their perfect position, and we don’t blame them.  It is, however, a waiting game and not much can be done to “speed up” this process.  You will go home with a compressive garment to push your new implants down toward your feet.  Dr. Meger will assess your progress on your multiple post surgery visits and tailor your garment schedule to your individual needs.

Dr. Meger has dedicated his life to helping all of his patients look as good on the outside as they feel on the inside. If you’ve just finished giving birth or breastfeeding, if you’ve had a mastectomy, or if you just want to get the size breasts you’ve always wanted, call Dr. Meger today at (602) 957-6000 and make sure you check out our gallery of Before-and-After breast augmentation pictures.

The “4 S’s” Of Breast Augmentation

depositphotos_38934391_original-compressorBreast augmentation is still one of the most popular procedure for plastic surgery with over 300,000 women undergoing the operation. Over the last few decades, the technology and techniques for breast augmentation have improved by leaps and bounds. But there is still a great deal of misinformation out there, and many of our patients experience some confusion when it comes to breast augmentation.

Scottsdale patients often ask us a few common questions about their breast augmentation. We’ve found that one of the best ways to quickly erase our patients’ confusion is by telling them about the “4 S’s” of breast augmentation.

Scottsdale women who aren’t happy with how their breasts look–whether it’s from a change in weight, breastfeeding, or just genetics–can get absolutely beautiful and natural-looking results from a breast augmentation. Dr. Meger is one of the premier plastic surgeons in the entire state and is leading the way when it comes to precision and getting patients the results they want. Give us a call today to find out more at (602) 957-6000.

1. Silicone vs. Saline

The first breast implant devices from the 60s were silicone. Since then, there have been continuous improvements giving patients more options than ever for their breast augmentation. Scottsdale patients most often choose gel “gummy” inserts because of their natural feel and appearance. But saline implants are still a great option for patients who want a smaller scar.

2. Surgical incision

One of the other major decisions that you’ll have to think about is what type of incision you want. Obviously, this isn’t something that you have to decide on your own. Dr. Meger will give you all of the details you need to make a confident and 100% informed decision. But you do have several incision styles to consider that will determine where your scar is located and what it looks like.

3. Implant size

By far the most difficult decision for our patients is the size of the implant. Dr. Meger specializes in helping women choose a size that fits with their anatomy and that looks natural. Most women have an “ideal” size and shape of breast that they want to achieve. When you visit Dr. Meger for your consultations, he will use a sizing bra that will let you see and feel the different sizes of implants.

4. Surgeon selection

The other incredibly important choice you’ll have to make is which surgeon you want to perform your breast augmentation. Scottsdale women have been rushing to work with Dr. Meger because of the stunning, natural-looking results that he consistently delivers.

Scottsdale who are ready to get a giant boost in confidence and to finally have the breasts you’ve always wanted, should call Dr. Meger today at (602) 957-6000. The first step in the process is to set up a convenient time for you to come in and meet with Dr. Meger in person. During this appointment, he’ll be able to answer all of your questions and also conduct an examination. We can’t wait to hear from you!

Transaxillary Vs. Inframammary

One of the most critical decisions that patients have to make is which type of incision their surgeon will use during their breast augmentation. Scottsdale patients are often unfamiliar with the different types of incisions, so we wanted to put together a quick explanation here in this blog post. The reason this decision is so important is that it will determine the scar placement after the procedure. Of course, this isn’t a decision that you’ll have to face alone. Dr. Meger has built his entire practice on the idea that patients and their doctors should make informed, honest, and confident decisions together. That’s why he always presents every single patient with all of the information, risks, and potential outcomes during his consultations.

If you’re unsatisfied with how your breasts look, now is the perfect time to call Dr. Meger at (602) 957-6000 and get the process started with your breast augmentation. Scottsdale patients that call us will get to talk with one of our friendly and dedicated staff. We always love getting calls from potential patients, and we’re more than happy to answer your questions and talk with you about your concerns. From there, the next step is for you to come into our modern and comfortable offices to meet with Dr. Meger in person.

Incision Options for Breast Augmentation

Scottsdale women who want to get breast augmentation have lots of important and potentially life-changing decisions to make. One of the primary ones is which type of incision to use during the procedure. Again, this isn’t a decision that you have to make all on your own. Dr. Meger will take all the time you need to talk with you about which one is right for you.

There are two primary incision options for breast augmentation: Transaxillary and Inframammary.

  • Transaxillary – With this option, the incision is made in the armpit. The implant is then “tunneled” to the breast and placed there. The great advantage of this method is that the scar in the armpit is almost never visible. This option also allows Scottsdale women to breastfeed in the future. But there are some drawbacks to this method as well, including a slight increase in the chance of breast implant asymmetry.
  •  Inframammary – In this method, the incision is made underneath the fold of the breast to reduce scar visibility. This method also allows for easier access in the future if the patient wants to replace the implants and also allows patients to breastfeed in the future. However, as you may have guessed, the main drawback to this option is that it leaves the scar visible in certain apparel.

Every patient wants to get fabulous results from their breast augmentation. Scottsdale patients who work with Dr. Meger have received some of the most incredible and natural-looking breast implants. Make sure you call us at (602) 957-6000 to find out more and to get your first consultation scheduled.

Treating Tuberous Breasts with Breast Augmentation

Phoenix women suffering from tuberous breasts sometimes require more than just one procedure to correct them. While Dr. Meger may recommend a breast augmentation as part of the treatment plan, there will likely be other procedures that need to also take place during the operation to completely correct the deformity. Here are a few of the options.

  • Expanding the tissue – One of the primary issues with tuberous breasts is that the breast tissue is closely packed together. Sometimes, Dr. Meger can use fat to fill out the constricted lower breast pole.
  • Breast lift – With a breast lift, Dr. Meger uses his incredible precision to lift and shape the breast tissue and give it a gorgeous, natural appearance. This lift may also include the nipple to raise it into a more natural location.
  • Breast augmentation – To give the breast volume, Dr. Meger may recommend a breast augmentation. Phoenix women will be able to choose exactly how large an implant they want. Dr. Meger will make sure you have all the information you need to make a confident decision. Also, if your tuberous breasts are asymmetrical, Dr. Meger can get two different sized breast implants for the breast augmentation.

Phoenix women living with tuberous breasts should call Dr. Meger today at (602) 957-6000. There’s no reason you have to live another day without natural-looking and pretty breasts. So give us a call today to get the process started.

What Type of Breast Implant Is Right for You?

istock_000044614852_xxxlarge-for-webOnce you’ve decided that you’re ready to start seriously thinking about getting breast augmentation, the next obvious question is which implant is right for me? Of course, without actually performing an examination and talking with you in person, it is difficult for Dr. Meger to give this kind of recommendation. However, what we want to do here in this blog post is give you some tools to use and questions to think about so you can make the best possible decision for your breast implants.

Scottsdale women usually spend a great deal of time thinking about this question, researching and talking with friends or family members. From there, we’ll set up a preliminary consultation with Dr. Meger. All of this is a crucial part of the process as you start to get more personalized information that you can use to make a determination on which type of breast implant is right for you.

Choosing Your Breast Implants

Scottsdale women have a lot of factors to consider as they begin thinking about their breast implants. One of the best parts of the decision, though, is that you get to choose whatever it is you desire and Dr. Meger will be there the entire time to help you. Here are a few things to consider as you start to think about which type of breast implant you want.

  • Saline breast implants – Saline implants have a small advantage over other types of implants. Because saline implants are inserted into the breast pocket deflated, they require a slightly smaller incision. After they’re inserted, Dr. Meger inflates them with the proper amount of saline. However, saline implants tend to ripple on the sides, which can be seen through the skin.
  • Silicone breast implants – This is a newer type of breast implant that is made from a silicone gel housed inside a silicone shell. This gel is similar to a thick paste, and while they tend to ripple less than saline, they require a slightly larger incision.
  • Gummy bear breast implants – For Scottsdale women, gummy bear breast implants can be a superior choice to saline breast implants. Over the years, the breast implant manufacturers have made continuous improvements to silicone implants. While all silicone implants today are considered cohesive gel or gummy bear, the newest gummy bear implants are made from a thicker kind of silicone (similar to gummy bears) that gives the breasts a much more natural feel. Gummy bear implants are usually more expensive than the other types of breast implants.

Scottsdale women who are ready to get youthful, beautiful and natural-looking breast implants should call Dr. Meger today at (602) 957-6000. He is one of the premier plastic surgeons in the entire region because of his compassionate care, precision, and the wonderful results his patients get. Call today!

Will Breast Augmentation Surgery Repair Breast Asymmetry?

depositphotos_48521957_original-compressorIf you have uneven or asymmetrical breasts, then it’s probably one of the first things you notice whenever you look in a mirror. It can even lead to self-esteem issues. But the great news is that there are a few different procedures that can easily correct asymmetry in the breasts–including breast augmentation. Phoenix women whose breasts are not the same size, position, or whose nipples may be uneven can get beautiful, natural-looking, and even breasts with a breast augmentation from Dr. Meger.

Give us a call today at (602) 957-6000 to get started.

Correcting Breast Asymmetry with Breast Augmentation

Phoenix women should know that breast asymmetry is completely normal and actually very common. On top of that, patients have several options to correct it with an augmentation procedure.

  • Saline implants – Even though the new “gummy bear” implants are extraordinarily popular right now, saline implants still have a number of terrific benefits–especially for women with asymmetrical breasts. Saline implants are often inserted deflated. This allows Dr. Meger to adjust each implant until they’re even.
  • Silicone implants – Many women get silicone implants that are two different sizes to accommodate their unique body. If you have asymmetrical breasts and want to get larger breasts, Dr. Meger can get silicone implants that are two different sizes so that the end results are two identical larger breasts.
  • Augment one breast – Another option is to just increase the size of the smaller breast. Dr. Meger can perform a breast augmentation on just one breast to make it match the other one.

We should also mention here, though, that a breast augmentation isn’t your only option. Breast lifts and breast reduction procedures are also very good at addressing asymmetrical breasts. Additionally, if it is just the nipple placement that is asymmetrical, this can be fixed on its own or as part of another procedure. We can also take fat from one area of your body and transfer it to one or both breasts to improve symmetry. Again, Dr. Meger will discuss all of this during your consultation.

You don’t have to live with asymmetrical breasts. If you’re ready to love how your breasts look, call Dr. Meger today to learn more about breast augmentation. Phoenix women can definitely get the breasts of their dreams when they work with Dr. Meger. Call us today at (602) 957-6000 to learn more, ask any questions you have, and get the process started.

Will My Breast Augmentation Feel Natural?

istock_53621712_large-compressorOne of the first questions that potential patients ask Dr. Meger is how natural their breasts will feel after breast augmentation. Scottsdale women are understandably curious about how their new breast implants will feel after the procedure and how long that will take. In fact, there are a few different factors that determine how natural implants feel after the breast augmentation procedure.

The first step to take if you’re unhappy with the size or appearance of your breasts, or if your breasts are asymmetrical, is to call Dr. Meger today at (602) 957-6000. When you call, you’ll talk with one of our friendly staff who can speak with you about your concerns, answer questions, and schedule your first consultation with Dr. Meger here at our offices. Dr. Meger is one of the premier plastic surgeons in the entire state, and he has helped thousands of women get beautiful, youthful, and natural-looking breasts.

What Makes Implants Feel Natural After Breast Augmentation

Scottsdale women considering breast augmentation should keep in mind that it usually takes up to six weeks or longer to see the final results of their procedure. It takes time for the implants to “drop” into position and for your body to adjust to their presence. But even before that happens, there are some pre-operation factors that will determine how natural your new breast implants feel.

  • Type of implant – The most popular type of implant right now is a new type of silicone that many Scottsdale patients call a “gummy bear” implant. These implants feel very natural and can be custom shaped to your body. Saline implants still feel natural, but it may take longer.
  • Implant placement – Surgeons can place implants on top of the chest muscle or underneath it. Implants that are placed below the muscle tend to feel more natural.
  • Implant size – The size of the implant also has a significant impact on how natural the results are from your breast augmentation. Scottsdale women that get much larger implants may experience less natural-feeling results than women who get smaller implants.
  • Current breast size – Finally, the pre-operation size of your breasts will also play a large role in how natural your breasts feel. The more tissue you have to start with the more natural your breasts will feel and the faster your body will be able to adjust to the implants after your breast augmentation.

Scottsdale women who work with Dr. Meger will have plenty of time to work through all of these decisions and learn all of the information that they need. Dr. Meger values transparency and makes sure that every single patient has a thorough comprehension about every step of the process. If you’re ready to get the breasts you’ve always wanted, make sure that you give us a call today at (602) 957-6000 to get the process started.

What’s the Difference Between Smooth and Textured Breast Implants?

istock_000009518082_large-compressorPhoenix is known for consistently warm weather so it’s not uncommon to be in a bikini year round. Perhaps you’re thinking about getting breast implants and improving the way your body looks. However, you want to make sure that you get the right kind of implants that will be best for you and what you want aesthetically. Before scheduling your surgery, you need to figure out what kind of implants there are and what will be best for you. Plastic surgeon Dr. Meger can help provide you with the right information you need to make this decision.

Typically, there are two main options to consider when getting breast implants: smooth and textured. It’s important to know the difference between both methods before you decide to schedule the procedure.

Smooth Breast Implants

All breast implants have an outer silicone shell. Inside the shell is either silicone gel or saline, so that the breasts have a soft consistency similar to real breasts. Phoenix patients often wonder what is the main difference between smooth and textured implants. For your implants to be classified as “smooth,” the outer silicone shell will look shiny and glossy. The implants’ outer shell will also feel more slippery in texture. Smooth implants are also less likely to ripple or break. These types of implants typically have an advantage because they provide a more natural physical shape.

Textured Breast Implants

Textured implants differ in how they feel and look physically in comparison. They are different from smooth implants because they will feel more fine and coarse. However, they will not feel rough, just less slippery than the smooth implants. Textured breast implants also create more friction between the implant and its surroundings. These types of implants also attach to the tissue capsule, so they are a little more firm in place and position, unlike smooth implants. Also, if you want to have a shaped breast implant, textured would be the choice for you.

Which One Do I Choose?

There are various benefits for textured and smooth implants. Choosing one over the other depends on a number of factors. When it comes to your breast augmentation, you need to decide based on the shape, feel, and texture of your desired breasts. They both have advantages for different reasons based on feel and shape. For example, for more of a firm placement and shaped breast, textured would be a better choice. If you want a more polished, slippery feel to your breasts; then smooth implants will be better for you. Ultimately, if you need help deciding, call Phoenix plastic surgeon Dr. Meger to schedule your consultation. He will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the difference in your plastic surgery choices. Undergoing breast surgery is a big decision, and we want to make sure that you feel confident and comfortable about your decision.

What’s the Difference Between a Round and Tear-Drop Shaped Breast Implant?

Beauty in lingerie. Beautiful young woman in lingerie posing against white background

When considering breast implants, most women don’t realize that there are different shape options from which you can choose. Choosing a shape for your breast can be a difficult decision because there are so many factors to consider. If you’ve already decided on getting implants, you have a lot to think about. You want to make sure that the shape you choose is the right one for you. Round implants can be flattering on some women’s bodies while tear dropped shaped implants can work better on other body types. It can be difficult deciding, but knowing the difference between the two main shapes can help you pick.

Round Implants

When you’re thinking of getting a breast augmentation to alter your breasts, round implants are a very common choice. A lot of Phoenix patients choose round because they add volume to your entire breasts. This design is the traditional implant route for most women in the United States. If you choose round implants, your breasts will be well-proportioned and plump. The implants also have a soft, smooth shell so that the feeling of the breasts will also remain soft. The outcome of round implants gives breasts full cleavage and a noticeable lift. When you choose round implants, you can also adjust the projection of your breasts to your liking. If you want an overall fuller bust, you may want to consider round breast implants.

Shaped Implants

Shaped, or tear-drop, implants are also another way to go when getting breast augmentation. The shape is similar to a tear-drop with less volume on top and a fuller bottom half of the breast. The upper part of the implants are less filled out to create the tear-drop shape. These types of implants typically have a better projection than round implants. Although round implants are chosen more due to the fullness they provide, shaped implants typically look a bit more natural. Because they are not so evenly rounded and plump, these can look more natural and less modified. Phoenix patients who are looking for a way to enhance their breasts, while maintaining a more anatomically natural appearance, may choose shaped implants.

Other Factors to Consider

Choosing the shape of your implants is a big decision for Phoenix patients. While you may mostly be considering your desired look, there are also other aspects that can play an important role in your choice. Everyone has a different body type. It’s imperative to look at your particular body type and decide what kind of breast implants will look the best for you. If you are interested in a more natural approach, you may consider shaped implants. However, if you would like a more noticeable, fuller change in your bust; round implants would work better. Also, you should consider placement of the implants and incision sites. Both types of implants are placed differently and have different incisions, so it’s important to know all the information before making a decision.
